Why am I doing this? Because I believe management is broken. Thus, I'm on a mission to support managers take ownership of their development and inspire them to create and drive positive changes within their organizations.

Why? Because I believe the management is broken. So, I'm on a mission to empower managers take ownership of their development and inspire them to create and drive positive change within their organizations.

My name is Sorin Ticrea and I'm a "garçon de management".

Over the past 19+ years, I've held various engineering managerial roles at a number of start-ups and established businesses across the world. A former senior director of engineering at Farfetch, I was responsible - during and after their successful IPO, for the strategy, organization and delivery for the entire Lisbon engineering team, managing at some point more than 250 engineers.

I also held managerial positions at Talkdesk - another Portuguese unicorn, Microsoft Exchange division in Redmond, Washington, a Machine Learning startup in Los Angeles, California, and couple others in Europe. Prior and in between my management tenure, I honed my developer skills at several companies on both sides of the Atlantic, and even co-founded a financial technology startup a long time ago.

I have a BSc degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. During my extensive career, I mentored and nurtured the skills of countless people, from undergrad students as teaching assistant during the early years, to fellow engineers and managers later on.

About me

I’m a great believer, practitioner and supporter of a continuous curiosity and learning approach to life. Not only because it helps recognizing information noise, but mainly because it's simply improving our skills and competence. It is also a key indicator of general life satisfaction and positive well-being, not only for those doing the learning, but also for people around them.

Lately, I work with tech companies and individuals interested in nurturing and expanding their social capital, determined to find ways to minimize pain at their workplace through better management and leadership.

Last but not least, I'm a jovial professional and an extrovert who enjoys not only work, but also good humor. You might not believe it judging by my picture, but I had quite some fun talking at that event. I like to call it, provocative fun :)
